We divide our breeding programs into four areas - Fullblood, Dairy, Polled and Red with some overlap between the groups. Number 8 Wagyu strongly believe in breeding using performance tested genetics and, while the Breedplan system is not perfect, we place significant emphasis on EBVs. However, we try to retain a balanced approach too and we will not (for example) use sires that have extreme IMF figures based largely on genomic data - particularly if other traits (such as growth) are forecast to be low.
All of our cattle have EBV's based on Ancestry and Genomics through the AWA - the Australian Wagyu Association.
Our breeding criteria for all cattle are
High IMF (marbling)
Good growth
High EMA (Eye Muscle Area)
High Marble Fineness
Easy Management - temperament, health, legs, feet
